It is a high plateau plain in the Bashan region, northeast of Lake Galilee.
It was allotted to the tribe of Manasseh and is one of the cities of refuge distributed to the Levites.
Deuteronomy 4:43namely, Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau for the Reubenites, Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan for the Manassites.
