📌Nathanael

Person

[See Twelve Disciples] One of Jesus' disciples. Regarding Jesus' twelve disciples, the Synoptic Gospels record him as Bartholomew, and only the Gospel of John mentions Nathanael. Therefore, although the Bible does not explicitly state that the two are the same person, they are presumed to be the same individual. Since Bartholomew means 'son of Tolmai,' Nathanael is considered to be his given name.

Matthew 10:2Philip; Bartholomew; Thomas; Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus; Lebbaeus, who was also called Thaddaeus;Matthew 10:3Simon the Zealot; and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.Matthew 10:4Jesus sent these twelve out, and commanded them, saying, “Don’t go among the Gentiles, and don’t enter into any city of the Samaritans.
John 21:2Simon Peter said to them, “I’m going fishing.” They told him, “We are also coming with you.” They immediately went out, and entered into the boat. That night, they caught nothing.
