A region allocated to the tribe of Judah.

During the reign of King Rehoboam, after the Israelite kingdom was divided into north and south, King Rehoboam built several fortified cities in preparation for war, and this region was one of them.

During the return from Babylonian captivity, Nehemiah (son of Azbuk), who governed this region, rebuilt part of the city wall.

Neh 3:16After him, Nehemiah) the son of Azbuk, ruler of half the district of Beth-zur, repaired from a point opposite the tombs of David, as far as the artificial pool and the house of the mighty.
