📍Bochim

Place

Bochim is a region between Bethel and Shiloh. During the time of the Judges, the people of Israel heard God's command to fight the native Canaanites, drive them out, and take possession of their land. However, as time passed, they chose to coexist with them rather than fight them.

Regarding this, God sent an angel to rebuke the people of Israel. Upon hearing the rebuke, the Israelites wept loudly in this place and offered sacrifices to God.

Judges 2:1The angel of the Lord went up from Gilgal to Bochim and said, “I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land I swore to give to your ancestors. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you,Judges 2:2and you shall not make a treaty with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.’ Yet you have disobeyed me. Why have you done this?Judges 2:3And I have also said, ‘I will not drive them out before you; they will become thorns in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’”Judges 2:4When the angel of the Lord had spoken these things to all the Israelites, the people wept aloud.Judges 2:5So they called that place Bochim and offered sacrifices there to the Lord.
