He was a priest during the time of Nehemiah (Governor) and was responsible for managing and distributing the offerings brought to the temple.

Neh 13:13I appointed as treasurers over the storehouses Shelemiah the priest, Zadok the scribe, and among the Levites, Pedaiah. And next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah, for they were considered trustworthy. Their duty was to distribute to their brothers.
