📦Sheol

Thing

Sheol is a Hebrew word referring to the place where the dead go, also translated as "Hades" or "grave." In the past, Sheol was translated and understood as the "hell" we commonly think of, but the Old Testament records that both the wicked and the righteous descend to 'Sheol' without distinction. In the New Testament, it is translated into Greek words such as 'Hades', 'Gehenna', and 'Tartarus', but these distinctions are not clearly divided. What can be said with certainty is that the Hebrews believed that everyone descends to Sheol upon death, and some scriptures state that the wicked are judged in Sheol.
