Shiloh is a region located northeast of Bethel that served as the de facto capital where the Ark of the Covenant was kept until the period of the Judges.
Judges 21:19Then they said, “Behold, there is a yearly feast of the Lord at Shiloh, which is north of Bethel, on the east of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem and south of Lebonah.”
After Joshua (son of Nun) conquered Canaan, he placed the Ark of the Covenant and the tabernacle here.
Joshua 18:1Then the whole congregation of the people of Israel assembled at Shiloh and set up the tent of meeting there. The land was subdued before them.
During the time of the priest Eli, the Ark of the Covenant was captured in a war with the Philistines, and thereafter, the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem by David.
