Aaron was a figure from the tribe of Levi, the elder brother of Moses and Miriam). He officially became the first high priest. ## Life Aaron was the grandson of Kohath, one of Levi (son of Jacob), and the son of Amram. He was born during the period of slavery in Egypt, and when Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, carried out the infanticide, his younger brother Moses was sent away in a basket. Later, when Moses, who had become a murderer and fled, returned, Aaron served as a spokesman, conveying God's will in place of Moses, who lacked eloquence.
Exodus 6:30Moses said before Yahweh, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh listen to me?”
Exodus 7:1You shall speak all that I command you; and Aaron your brother shall speak to Pharaoh, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land.Exodus 7:2I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.
모세가 시내 산에서 계명을 받으러 올라갈 때, 오랜 시간이 지나도록 내려오지 않자 조급한 백성들이 금송아지를 만들고 애굽으로 돌아가자는 폭동이 일어났는데, 이때 백성들이 아론에게 금송아지를 만들라고 요구했고, 이 요구에 굴복하여 금송아지 상을 만들고 백성들로 하여금 경배하도록 한 죄를 저질렀다.
Exodus 32:1Aaron said to them, “Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”Exodus 32:2All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.Exodus 32:3He received what they handed him, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molded calf. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”Exodus 32:4When Aaron) saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.”Exodus 32:5They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.Exodus 32:6Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go, get down; for your people, who you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!Exodus 32:7They have turned away quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’ ”
아론에게는 네 아들이 있었는데, 바로 나답, 아비후, 엘르아살, 이다말이다.
이중 나답과 아비후는 자신들이 임의로 준비한 불로 성소에 분향하다 죽임을 당한다.
Leviticus 10:1Fire came out from before Yahweh, and devoured them, and they died before Yahweh.Leviticus 10:2Then Moses said to Aaron), “This is what Yahweh spoke of, saying, ‘I will show myself holy to those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.’ ” Aaron held his peace.
이후 대제사장의 직분은 그 다음인 엘르아살에게 넘어가간다.
