He was the high priest during the time of King Saul.

1 Sam 14:3Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, was wearing the ephod. He was the son of Ahitub, son of Phinehas, son of Eli, the Lord’s priest in Shiloh. The people did not know that Jonathan had gone.
1 Sam 14:18Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God here.” (At that time the ark of God was with the Israelites.)

In other texts, he is recorded as Ahimelech, so it is not clear whether these two are the same person or brothers.

1 Sam 22:11Then the king sent for Ahitub’s son Ahimelech the priest and all his father’s family, the priests at Nob, and they all came to the king.
1 Sam 22:20But one of the sons of Ahitub, son of Ahimelech, escaped; his name was Abiathar, and he fled to David.
