King of the Northern Kingdom of Israel, son of Joash (King of Northern Israel). It was the most prosperous period in Israel's history, expanding its territory from Hamath to the Arabah.

2 Kings 14:25He restored the territory of Israel from Lebo-Hamath to the Sea of the Arabah, in accordance with the word of the Lord, the God of Israel, spoken through his servant Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath Hepher.2 Kings 14:26The Lord had seen how bitterly everyone in Israel, whether slave or free, was suffering; no one was there to help them.2 Kings 14:27And since the Lord had not said he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam son of Joash.2 Kings 14:28As for the other events of Jeroboam’s reign, all he did, and his military achievements, including how he recovered for Israel both Damascus and Judah, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?

Despite restoring the largest territory, the Bible only briefly records this fact, because this period, while materially most developed, had no spiritual or moral significance.

However, it can be said that even though he was a corrupt king, God heard the groans and suffering of his people and delivered them from oppression.

The main prophets active during this period were Jonah (prophet) and Amos (prophet).
