📌Obed-Edom

Person

He was a man who loved God's Ark of the Covenant during the time of King David. He was originally called a Gittite. Therefore, one might think he was a Gentile Philistine, but he is presumed to have been a Levite. In the last period of the Judges, the Israelite people, who were frequently invaded by the Philistines, went to war with the Ark of the Covenant at the forefront. However, they were defeated in that war and even lost the Ark of the Covenant. The Philistines took the Ark as spoils of war, but from then on, God struck the Philistine people, so they could not endure it. They loaded the Ark onto a cart pulled by cows and let it go freely. The cart stopped at Kiriath-Jearim, so the people placed the Ark in the house of Abinadab. 16:38 Time passed, through the era of Samuel and King Saul, and even when David became king, the Ark remained in Abinadab's house. David then sought to bring the Ark back. However, in that process, Uzzah touched the Ark, and God immediately struck Uzzah, causing him to die. This fact brought fear and shock to the people, and so the Ark remained in Obed-Edom's house. Obed-Edom willingly received the Ark, which everyone feared, and during those three months, God blessed Obed-Edom.

2 Samuel 6:10Yahweh’s ark remained in Obed-Edom) the Gittite’s house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his house.2 Samuel 6:11King David)) was told, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-Edom), and all that belongs to him, because of God’s ark.” So David went and brought up God’s ark from the house of Obed-Edom into David’s city with joy.
