Refers to a group of people who supported the Herodian dynasty that ruled Israel in the early New Testament era. Because the Herodian dynasty had Edomite blood mixed in and sided with Rome to oppress the people of Israel, there were many groups within the country who harbored resentment. They served as a support base to suppress and oppress these groups.
