Asherah is a deity of a pagan religion that was widely spread in Mesopotamia. She is a goddess paired with Baal, the god of the sky, and is the goddess of the earth. That is, the concept was that when Baal brought rain from the sky, Asherah, the goddess of the earth, received it, causing crops to grow. The main ritual of worship involved priestesses having sexual relations with men in the temple to arouse Baal's lust. This Baal and Asherah cult remained in the Palestine region for a very long time and was one of the pagan religions that greatly angered God.
