A region east of the Jordan River.
It is where the half-tribe of Manasseh stayed during the Conquest of Canaan. Afterwards, when Israel's influence was strong, it belonged to Israel's territory, but when it was weak, it fell under the influence of the Ammonites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh gradually assimilated and disappeared.
Jephthah was from this place.
