Gyu (圭) refers to a small staff symbolizing the emperor's authority. In biblical original languages, it means scepter, and when translated, it was rendered as gyu, which was used in the East. ## Gyu and Hol in the East 
It refers to a small rod or staff that symbolized authority when a king and his subjects met. The hol (笏) was held by subjects, and the gyu was held by the king. The hol has a square, angled end, while the gyu has a pointed, triangular end. ## Gyu and Hol in the West and the Bible It was used to symbolize the tribe of Judah. This expresses the dominion of Jesus Christ, who would later come as the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
