📌Judas (Iscariot)

Person

This document is about Judas (Iscariot). For other homonyms, please refer to the Judas document. Judas Iscariot was one of Jesus' twelve disciples who ultimately betrayed Jesus. Because of this, he is often referred to as a byword for 'traitor' and is one of the most famous of the twelve disciples, yet surprisingly, the records about him are not clear. For a start, even the name Iscariot is interpreted in various ways, such as referring to his place of origin, a liar, or an assassin. However, the Gospels record him as "the son of Simon Iscariot," so we only know that his father's name was Simon. The most common theories are that "Iscariot" means "from the region of Kerioth" and that it means "liar." He was clearly one of the apostles chosen by Jesus after much prayer and deliberation.
