📌Mary Magdalene

Person

This document is about Mary Magdalene. For other homonyms, please refer to the Mary document. Mary Magdalene was one of the female disciples who followed Jesus. She is the most famous female disciple in church tradition, having witnessed both the event of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Thumbnail ### Overview She is often confused with Mary from the three siblings of Bethany, or the woman who anointed Jesus with oil, but in fact, she is a different person from them. In the Bible, there is rather little clearly recorded about Mary Magdalene's actions or background. Her earliest appearance in Jesus' ministry, chronologically, is recorded in the Gospel of Luke.

Luke 8:2and Joanna, the wife of Chuzas, Herod’s steward; Susanna; and many others; who served them from their possessions.Luke 8:3When a great multitude came together, and people from every city were coming to him, he spoke by a parable.
Matthew 27:56When evening had come, a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who himself was also Jesus’ disciple came.
Mark 15:40who, when he was in Galilee, followed him and served him; and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.
Mark 15:47Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of Joses, saw where he was laid.
Luke 23:49Behold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man
John 19:25Therefore when Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”
Matthew 27:61Now on the next day, which was the day after the Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate,
Matthew 28:1Behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from the sky, and came and rolled away the stone from the door, and sat on it.
Mark 16:1Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.
Mark 16:9She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept.
Luke 24:10These words seemed to them to be nonsense, and they didn’t believe them.
John 20:1Therefore she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have laid him!”
John 20:18When therefore it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were locked where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the middle, and said to them, “Peace be to you.”
