이 지역은 이스라엘 지역의 가장 북쪽 끝으로 단에서 브엘세바까지라는 말은 이스라엘 땅 전체를 말하는 관용구가 되었다. (브엘세바는 이스라엘의 최 남단 지역이다.)
이후, 여로보암 1세가 이곳에 금송아지를 세워 이 지역은 우상숭배를 하는 대표적인 지역이 되었다.
