
Crete is a large island located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. In the Old Testament, it was called Caphtor. During the early church era, the Jews from here also came to Jerusalem to observe the Feast of Pentecost.
Paul passed through here on his way to Rome.
Acts 27:7We sailed slowly for many days and with difficulty arrived off Cnidus. When the wind did not allow us to proceed further, we sailed under the shelter of Crete off Salmone.
Paul left Titus here to appoint elders in every town.
Titus 1:5The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.
According to the book of Titus, the reputation of the Cretans at that time did not seem good.
Titus 1:12One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.”
