A Kenite, a descendant of Hammath. That is, they are of the same clan as Hobab, Moses' father-in-law.

1 Chr 2:55The clans of scribes who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, the Shimeathites and the Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the ancestor of the house of Rechab.

Jehonadab assisted Jehu (King of Northern Israel) as a companion.

2 Kgs 10:15When Jehu left there, he met Jehonadab son of Rechab, who was coming to meet him. Jehu greeted him and said, “Are you as loyal to me as I am to you?” “I am,” Jehonadab answered. “If so,” said Jehu, “give me your hand.” So he did, and Jehu helped him up into the chariot.2 Kgs 10:16Then he said, “Come with me and see my zeal for the Lord.” So he had him ride along in his chariot.2 Kgs 10:17When Jehu came to Samaria, he killed all who were left of Ahab’s family in Samaria, in accordance with the word of the Lord spoken to Elijah.

During the time Jeremiah (the prophet) was active, they had come to Jerusalem to escape the Babylonian attack.

Jeremiah tested them by offering them wine, but they refused to drink it to uphold the regulations from their ancestors.

God was pleased with this and promised that their descendants would never be cut off.
