📍Beth-haccherem

Place

Beth-haccherem is an area near Jerusalem. Its exact location is unknown.

Jer 6:1Flee for safety, O children of Benjamin, from the midst of Jerusalem! Blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and raise a signal on Beth-haccherem, for disaster looms out of the north, and great destruction.

Malchijah, the son of Rechab, who governed this area, installed the 'Dung Gate' of Jerusalem's city wall. Here, the Dung Gate refers to a gate through which waste like feces was discarded.

Neh 3:14Malchijah the son of Rechab, ruler of the district of Beth-haccherem, repaired the Dung Gate. He rebuilt it and set its doors, bolts, and bars in place.

It is not clear whether this Rechab is the same as the Rechab (descendant of Hammath) mentioned in Jeremiah 35.
