Methuselah was the longest-living person, dying at the age of 969.
He was the son of Enoch, who ascended to heaven without dying, and the grandfather of Noah. When he was 187 years old, his son Lamech was born, and when Methuselah was 367 years old, Lamech, at 180 years old, begot Noah.
The Great Flood of Noah occurred in the year Methuselah died.
His name means 'thrower of a spear,' signifying one who guards the furthest rear of the village. It can be seen that his name was given with the meaning that when Methuselah dies, the end of the world will come.
