📦Sin Offering

Thing

Sin Offering is a sacrifice offered to receive forgiveness for sins. More detailed information on this can be found in Leviticus 4. {{:5 Major Offerings}} When a sin was committed, the sacrifice was offered by burning the offering, but unlike a burnt offering where everything was burned, only the fat was burned, and the rest was taken to the ash heap to be burned again.

Lev 4:8And he shall remove all the fat from the bull of the sin offering: the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails,Lev 4:9and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them at the loins, and the fatty lobe of the liver with the kidneys he shall remove,Lev 4:10just as it is removed from the ox of the peace offering. And the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering.Lev 4:11But the hide of the bull and all its flesh, with its head, its legs, its entrails, and its dung—Lev 4:12all the rest of the bull—he shall carry outside the camp to a clean place, to the ash heap, and burn it up on wood with fire; at the ash heap it shall be burned.

Also, the offering was to be presented differently according to the status and circumstances of the person offering the sacrifice.

  • Priest and the whole congregation (young bull)
  • Leader (male goat)
  • Common people (young female lamb, female goat)
  • Poor (doves, grain flour)
