📍Valley of Achor

Place

The Valley of Achor is a valley located south of Jericho and north of Jerusalem.

After the fall of Jericho by Joshua (son of Nun), Achan hid treasures, was discovered, killed, and buried here.

Joshua 7:24Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold bar, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and everything he had, and they brought them to the Valley of Achor.Joshua 7:25Joshua said, “Why have you brought this trouble on us? The Lord will bring trouble on you today.” Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the others, they burned them.Joshua 7:26Over Achan they heaped up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day. Then the Lord turned from his fierce anger. Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor ever since.

This place became the boundary between the land of the tribe of Benjamin and the tribe of Judah.

Joshua 15:7The boundary then went up from the Valley of Achor to Debir and turned north to Gilgal, which is opposite the Adummim Pass, south of the gorge. It continued along to the waters of En Shemesh and came out at En Rogel.

In the book of Isaiah, a message of restoration was proclaimed, stating that this desolate place would become a resting place for herds of cattle.

Isaiah 65:10Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds, for my people who have sought me.
Hosea 2:15There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she will respond as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt.
