Anathoth is a region north of Jerusalem. It was a region allocated to the Levites within the territory of the tribe of Benjamin.

Joshua 21:17From the tribe of Benjamin they were given Gibeon with its pasturelands, Geba with its pasturelands,Joshua 21:18Anathoth with its pasturelands and Almon with its pasturelands—four towns.Joshua 21:19All the towns for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, were thirteen towns and their pasturelands.

After David's death, Solomon sent the priest Abiathar, who had participated in the rebellion, to Anathoth.

1 Kings 2:26To Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to your fields in Anathoth. You deserve to die, but I will not put you to death today, because you carried the ark of the Sovereign Lord before my father David and shared all my father’s hardships.”

It is the hometown of Jeremiah (prophet).

Jeremiah 11:21Therefore this is what the Lord says about the people of Anathoth who are seeking your life and saying, “Do not prophesy in the name of the Lord or you will die by our hands”—

Many people resided there during the return of Nehemiah (governor).

Among David's mighty men, Abiezer and Jehu (Anathothite) were from this region.
