Amos 1:1He said: “Yahweh will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the pastures of the shepherds will mourn, and the top of Carmel will wither.”
Amos 7:14and Yahweh took me from following the flock, and Yahweh said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’
당시 북이스라엘 왕국의 여로보암 2세시절은 외형적으로 보았을 때에는 매우 번성하고 강력하던 시기였다. 그럼에도 그 속에 하나님을 버이고 우상숭배하는 행위는 널리 퍼졌고 그 속에서 빈부격차와 여러가지 문제들이 있었다. 아모스는 이런 세태를 비판하면서 하나님의 심판과 회복을 선포하였다.
