This document is about Abinadab (of Kiriath-jearim). For other homonyms, please refer to the Abinadab document. He was a man of Kiriath-jearim. The Israelites lost the Ark of the Covenant in a battle with the Philistines. The Philistines took the Ark as spoils of war, but because God continued to punish them, they returned the Ark to Kiriath-jearim and went back.
1 Samuel 6:19The men of Beth Shemesh said, “Who is able to stand before Yahweh, this holy God? To whom shall he go up from us?”1 Samuel 6:20They sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath Jearim, saying, “The Philistines have brought back Yahweh’s ark. 1 Samuel 7:1From the day that the ark stayed in Kiriath Jearim, the time was long; for it was twenty years; and all the house of Israel lamented after Yahweh.1 Samuel 7:2Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”

2 Samuel 6:1David arose, and went with all the people who were with him, from Baale Judah, to bring up from there God’s ark, which is called by the Name, even the name of Yahweh of Armies who sits above the cherubim.2 Samuel 6:2They set God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house that was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.2 Samuel 6:3They brought it out of Abinadab’s house, which was in the hill, with God’s ark; and Ahio went before the ark.2 Samuel 6:4David and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with castanets, and with cymbals.2 Samuel 6:5When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached for God’s ark, and took hold of it; for the cattle stumbled.2 Samuel 6:6Yahweh’s anger burned against Uzzah; and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God’s ark.2 Samuel 6:7David was displeased, because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez Uzzah, to this day.2 Samuel 6:8David was afraid of Yahweh that day; and he said, “How could Yahweh’s ark come to me?”2 Samuel 6:9So David) would not move Yahweh’s ark to be with him in David’s city; but David carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house.2 Samuel 6:10Yahweh’s ark remained in Obed-Edom) the Gittite’s house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his house.
