One of the regions conquered by Assyria. Its exact location is unknown. After conquering the Northern Kingdom of Israel, Assyria forcibly relocated its inhabitants to Samaria. These people had a religion where they burned their children as offerings to idols. It is continuously mentioned when referring to the northern regions in the Bible.
2 Kings 17:24The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Awa, Hamath and Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria instead of the Israelites. They took over Samaria and lived in its towns.
2 Kings 17:31The people from Awa made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the people from Sepharvaim burned their children as sacrifices to Adrammelech) and Anammelech, their gods.
