He guarded the Ark of the Covenant while it was in his father Abinadab's house. In 1 Samuel 7, he is referred to as Eliasar, but it is the same spelling as Eleazar.
1 Sam 7:1The people of Kiriath-jearim came and took the ark of the Lord up to the house of Abinadab on the hill. And they consecrated Eleazar his son to have charge of the ark of the Lord.
