He was the leader who led the Israelites after the death of Moses. The meaning of his name is 'Yahweh is salvation.' It is the original form of the name "Jesus (Yeshua)." He was the son of Nun of the tribe of Ephraim, and his original name was Hosea. Here, Nun is a person's name.

가나안으로 보낸 12명의 정탐꾼 중 한명으로 나머지 10명은 부정적인 의견을 말하여 이스라엘 백성들을 낙담케 하였으나 여호수아는 갈렙과 함께 하나님이 함께하시므로 이길 수 있다고 하였다.
Numbers 14:6They spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land.Numbers 14:7If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us: a land which flows with milk and honey.Numbers 14:8Only don’t rebel against Yahweh, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us. Their defense is removed from over them, and Yahweh is with us. Don’t fear them.”Numbers 14:9But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. Yahweh’s glory appeared in the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel.
이에 하나님은 진노하셔서 그 당시 원망한 성인 남녀는 모두 가나안 땅으로 들어가지 못하고 다만 갈렙과 여호수아만 들어가도록 허락하시게 된다.
