[See Jacob's Family Tree]
Issachar is the ninth son of Jacob (son of Isaac) and the fifth son of his mother Leah.
Gen 30:18Leah said, “God has given me my wages because I gave my servant to my husband.” So she called his name Issachar.
Before his death, when Jacob gave his blessings, he said that Issachar was a strong donkey crouching among the sheepfolds.
Moses blessed the tribe of Issachar, saying that they would offer righteous sacrifices on the mountain and find the abundance of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand.
Deut 33:19They will call the peoples to the mountain; there they will offer sacrifices of righteousness; for they will draw out the abundance of the seas, and the treasures hidden in the sand.
