Azazel (Scapegoat) refers to one of two goats chosen by lot on the Day of Atonement and sent into the wilderness.
Lev 16:8And Aaron shall cast lots over the two goats, one lot for the Lord and the other lot for Azazel.
This symbolizes the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, by which the sins of the people are placed upon the Azazel goat and sent away.
