Caiaphas was the high priest of Jerusalem in the New Testament era.

Luke 3:2while Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

He was also the son-in-law of Annas, who was likewise a high priest.

John 18:13They took him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

These two individuals were each called high priests and continuously exercised religious influence. He was the one who interrogated Jesus, who had been arrested, trying to find evidence to put him to death, and sent Jesus to Pilate.
