📌Eve

Person

Eve is the first human female created by God.

Hawwah or Eve

Both Hawwah and Eve mean "mother of all living."

Gen 3:20Adam named his wife Eve, because she was to become the mother of all the living.

Hawwah is the original Hebrew record, and as it was translated into the Septuagint, Vulgate, etc., it was translated into Εύα in Greek and Eva in Latin, which was then translated into Eve in English.

The First Humans

God created woman from Adam's rib and had them form the first community, the family.

Gen 2:20So Adam gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.Gen 2:21So the Lord God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of Adam’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh.Gen 2:22Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of Adam, and he brought her to Adam.Gen 2:23Adam said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”Gen 2:24That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

In particular, the last verse, Genesis 2:24, is quoted again by Apostle Paul in the New Testament, who states that it foreshadows the image of Jesus Christ and the church.

Eph 5:31“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”Eph 5:32This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

Expelled from Paradise due to Disobedience

The serpent tempted Eve, and Eve ate the forbidden fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and also offered it to her husband.

Paul also considered this part important.

2 Cor 11:3But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

Afterward, Eve became the ancestor of humanity by bearing children.

Gen 4:1Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth a man.”
