Gethsemane is a garden on the Mount of Olives to the east of Jerusalem. The name means 'oil press', and it seems that olive oil was extracted here due to the abundance of olives on the Mount of Olives.
John 18:1When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the Kidron Valley, where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered.
Jesus frequently visited this place.
Luke 22:39And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.
He also offered his last prayer here before being crucified.
Mark 14:32And they went to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”
Matthew 26:36Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
