Herod is the name of a king or dynasty that ruled the region of Israel from the time of Jesus Christ's ministry to the period of the Book of Acts.
Historically, the following kings are recorded in the Bible:
- Herod the Great - The most famous king historically. Upon hearing of the birth of Jesus Christ, he ordered the massacre of infants.
- Herod Archelaus - The son of Herod the Great (above), who ruled the region of Israel along with Antipas (below).
- Herod the Tetrarch - This is Herod Antipas, the son of Herod the Great (above). He killed John the Baptist.
- Herod Agrippa I - The king in the early part of the Book of Acts. He persecuted the apostles and believers.
- Herod Agrippa II - Apostle Paul testified the gospel before this king.
- Herod Philip - Philip (Herod Philip the Tetrarch)
