Person
This document is about Joiada (son of Eliashib). For other homonyms, please refer to the Joiada document.

He was the son of Eliashib, the high priest during the time of Nehemiah (governor). In Nehemiah 13, he is also mentioned as a grandson.

In Hebrew genealogies, it is common for a grandchild to be directly referred to as a child if the parent died early or did not achieve anything particularly noteworthy. Therefore, it is likely that he was indeed Eliashib's grandson.

Neh 12:10Jeshua was the father of Joiakim, Joiakim the father of Eliashib, Eliashib the father of Joiada,Neh 12:11Joiada the father of Jonathan, and Jonathan the father of Jaddua.
Neh 12:22The heads of the Levite families in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, Johanan and Jaddua were recorded in the book of the chronicles. So were the priests in the reign of Persian King Darius.

His son became the son-in-law of Sanballat, and was therefore driven out.

Neh 13:28One of the sons of Joiada son of Eliashib the high priest was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite. And I drove him away from me.
