Medad was one of the 70 elders upon whom the Spirit of the Lord came, and they prophesied, when the Israelites were in the wilderness during the Exodus.
Num 11:24Moses went out and told the people the words of the Lord, and he gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and made them stand around the tent.Num 11:25Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke to Moses, and took some of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. And as soon as the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied. But they did not do it again.Num 11:26Now two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad and the other named Medad, and they had been among those listed, but they had not gone out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp.Num 11:27A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!”Num 11:28Then Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ aide since youth, spoke up and said, “My lord Moses, stop them!”Num 11:29But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!”
