📦Nephilim

Thing

Nephilim is a term in the Bible referring to "giants."

Gen 6:1When people began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them,Gen 6:2the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.Gen 6:3Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”Gen 6:4The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

They were beings born from the sexual relations between the sons of God and the daughters of men. The Bible's explanation for this is not clear, leading to much speculation.

One thing that is certain is that there were hybrid beings between some supernatural entities and humans, and these were very large giants and great warriors. However, their appearance was one of the fallen aspects of this earth, and the traditional view is that they were all wiped out by Noah's flood.

Gen 7:21And all flesh died that moved on the earth, birds, livestock, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm on the earth, and all mankind.Gen 7:22Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died.

Later, during the reconnaissance of Canaan, the Israelite spies saw the descendants of Anak, whose stature was very great, so they thought that the Anakim were descendants of the Nephilim. However, there is no clear explanation as to whether the Nephilim survived the flood, or whether beings called sons of God had relations with humans after the flood and gave birth to giants, or if it was simply a misunderstanding that they were descendants of the Nephilim because they saw a race of giants.

Generally, the last case is interpreted as the most likely.

Num 13:32So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height.
