Shaphan was a scribe who participated in the repair of the temple during the reign of King Josiah.
2 Kings 22:3“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into Yahweh’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.2 Kings 22:4Let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and let them give it to the workmen who are in Yahweh’s house, to repair the damage to the house,2 Kings 22:5to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.2 Kings 22:6However there was no accounting made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.”2 Kings 22:7Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan)) the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
2 Kings 22:8Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house.”2 Kings 22:9Shaphan) the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.2 Kings 22:10When the king had heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.2 Kings 22:11The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan), Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,2 Kings 22:12“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”2 Kings 22:13So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.
성경에는 사반의 아들로 아히감, 엘라사, 그마랴, 야아사냐등이 등장하는데,이 중 야아사냐는 타락한 지도자로 묘사되고, 나머지 아들들은 아버지를 따라 하나님을 잘 섬기려는 자들로 보인다.
Jeremiah 26:24But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so that they didn’t give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
Jeremiah 29:1(after Jeconiah the king, the queen mother, the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem), the craftsmen, and the smiths, had departed from Jerusalem),Jeremiah 29:2by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon) to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon). It said:Jeremiah 29:3Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon:
Jeremiah 36:10When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all Yahweh’s words,Jeremiah 36:11he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room: and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.Jeremiah 36:12Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.
Ezekiel 8:10Seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel stood before them. In the middle of them Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan stood, every man with his censer in his hand; and the smell of the cloud of incense went up.Ezekiel 8:11Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in his rooms of imagery? For they say, ‘Yahweh doesn’t see us. Yahweh has forsaken the land.’ ”
바벨론에 의해 유다왕국이 멸망한 뒤에, 사반의 손자 그달리야가 총독이 되어 그 지역을 다스리게 되었다.
2 Kings 25:22Now when all the captains of the forces, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.
