Zimri usurped the throne and annihilated all the descendants of Baasha, and even after becoming king, he continued to commit idolatry, which was a sin in the eyes of God. Because of this, Omri, a commander of the army who was in the Gibbethon region for a battle against the Philistines at the time, turned his army back and attacked the royal palace. When Zimri's defeat was certain, he set fire to the royal palace and died in it.
