[See Twelve Disciples]
Peter was one of Jesus' twelve disciples.
Overview
The meaning of the name is 'rock', and his original name was Simon, but Jesus gave him the new name 'Cephas'. Cephas translates to Peter. He lived as a fisherman in Galilee with his brother Andrew, who later also became a disciple of Jesus. He was one of Jesus' three chief disciples. (The others were John and James)
Life
He originally lived as a fisherman in the Sea of Galilee, but was called by Jesus and became a disciple.
After that, he always followed Jesus and became the chief disciple through many miracles and teachings. However, contrary to his usual boasts, he denied Jesus three times on the day Jesus was crucified.
However, after meeting the resurrected Jesus, he was fully restored and became a leader of the early church after Jesus' ascension.
