A water-rich region in the Wilderness of Sin. Also called Kadesh-barnea. It has historically been a water-rich area in the wilderness. It is where the ancient Elamite king Chedorlaomer and other kings waged war.

Deuteronomy 1:2In the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, Moses spoke to the children of Israel according to all that Yahweh had given him in commandment to them,
Deuteronomy 1:19I said to you, “You have come to the hill country of the Amorites, which Yahweh our God gives to us.Deuteronomy 1:20Behold, Yahweh your God has set the land before you. Go up, take possession, as Yahweh the God of your fathers has spoken to you. Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed.”Deuteronomy 1:21You came near to me, everyone of you, and said, “Let’s send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring back to us word of the way by which we must go up, and the cities to which we shall come.”Deuteronomy 1:22The thing pleased me well. I took twelve of your men, one man for every tribe.Deuteronomy 1:23They turned and went up into the hill country, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.Deuteronomy 1:24They took some of the fruit of the land in their hands and brought it down to us, and brought us word again, and said, “It is a good land which Yahweh our God gives to us.”

It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.”Numbers 20:5Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces. Yahweh’s glory appeared to them.Numbers 20:6Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,Numbers 20:7“Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it pour out its water. You shall bring water to them out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink.”Numbers 20:8Moses took the rod from before Yahweh, as he commanded him.Numbers 20:9Moses) and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Shall we bring water out of this rock for you?”Numbers 20:10Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice, and water came out abundantly. The congregation and their livestock drank.Numbers 20:11Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you didn’t believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”Numbers 20:12These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with Yahweh, and he was sanctified in them.Numbers 20:13Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: “Your brother Israel says: You know all the travail that has happened to us;
