One of the peoples who resided in the land of Canaan, which God promised to Abraham.
Genesis 15:18On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—Genesis 15:19the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites,Genesis 15:20Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites,Genesis 15:21Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”
They seem to have resided in the Kenizzite region (Kenaz region).
Caleb, son of Jephunneh, was from this place. This suggests that Caleb was originally a native Canaanite who later joined the tribe of Judah.
