The Moabite people themselves were called the people of Chemosh.

Furthermore, Jephthah referred to Chemosh as 'the god of Ammon,' which suggests that this faith spread not only among the Moabites but also to their neighbors, the Ammonites.

Judg 11:24Will you not possess what Chemosh your god gives you to possess? And whatever the Lord our God has dispossessed before us, we will possess.

Solomon married a Moabite woman who worshipped Chemosh, thus introducing the worship of Chemosh into Israel.

1 Kgs 11:7Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites.

The Israelites worshipped Chemosh and committed acts of human sacrifice.

When the Moabite king Mesha faced defeat at the end of a battle with the Israelite army, he offered his firstborn son as a human sacrifice.
