Place

Geshur is a region located south of Mount Hermon on the eastern side of the Jordan River, and north of Bashan.

Josh 12:5and ruled over Mount Hermon, Salecah, and all Bashan, as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and also over half of Gilead, as far as the border of Heshbon king Sihon.

Jair, son of Manasseh (son of Joseph), took possession of it but could not drive out its inhabitants.

Deut 3:14Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, took the whole region of Argob as far as the borders of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and called it, that is, Bashan, Havvoth Jair, as it is to this day.)

Absalom's biological mother was a princess from this region, and Absalom took refuge here after killing his brother Amnon.
