She was the first daughter of Saul (the king).
1 Samuel 14:49The name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the captain of his army was Abner the son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.
사울은 당시 훌륭한 장수로 이름을 날리던 다윗을 견제하고자 하는 마음도 있었고 그의 능력을 필요로 하는 상황도 있었기에, 그에게 어려운 군사적 임무를 맡기고 그것을 성공할 경우 왕의 사위로 삼겠다고 하였다.
그래서 우선적으로 이 메랍이 제시되었지만 사울은 마음을 바꿔 아드리엘에게 시집 보내고 다윗에게는 둘째 딸 미갈을 시집보낸다.

이후, 사울(왕)이 기브온사람들을 죽인 일로 원망을 사자, 그것을 풀어주기 위해 다윗은 사울의 후손을 기브온 사람들에게 원한을 풀도록 내어주는 일이 있었는데, 그때 이 메랍과 아드리엘의 아들 다섯명이 바쳐졌다.
