Solomon 왕 시절에 이곳에서 금 430 달란트를 얻었다고 나오는데, 이는 약 16톤에 해당하는 양으로 엄청난 양이다. 금 뿐만 아니라 많은 보석도 가지고 온 것으로 보아 귀금속 광물이 풍부한 지역임을 알 수 있다.

1946년 텔아비브 근처 발굴지에서 BC 8세기 경의 것으로 추정되는 자기 조각이 발견되었는데, 거기에 ‘오빌의 금’이라는 표현이 있었다. 성서에 쓰여진 오빌이란 지명이 고고학적으로도 사실로 판명된 것이다.
