사반(Shaphan) 은
Josiah 왕 시기에 성전을 보수하는데 참여한 서기관이다.
3 In the eighteenth year of king Josiah , the king sent Shaphan , the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to Yahweh’s house, saying,
4 “Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into Yahweh’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.
5 Let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house; and let them give it to the workmen who are in Yahweh’s house, to repair the damage to the house,
6 to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.
7 However there was no accounting made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.”
성전을 보수하는데 잊혀졌던 율법책이 발견되자 사반은 요시야 왕에게 그 율법책을 낭독했다.
8 Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.
9 Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house.”
10 Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.
11 When the king had heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes.
12 The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan , Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,
13 “Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is Yahweh’s wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”
성경에는 사반의 아들로

그마랴 ,
야아사냐 등이 등장하는데,이 중
야아사냐 는 타락한 지도자로 묘사되고, 나머지 아들들은 아버지를 따라 하나님을 잘 섬기려는 자들로 보인다.
But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, so that they didn’t give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
1 Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon ,
2 (after Jeconiah the king, the queen mother, the eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem , the craftsmen, and the smiths, had departed from Jerusalem),
3 by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan , and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon). It said:
10 Then Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the book in Yahweh’s house, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan , the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house, in the ears of all the people.
11 When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan , had heard out of the book all Yahweh’s words,
12 he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room: and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan , Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
10 So I went in and looked, and saw every form of creeping things, abominable animals, and all the idols of the house of Israel , portrayed around on the wall.
11 Seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel stood before them. In the middle of them Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan stood, every man with his censer in his hand; and the smell of the cloud of incense went up.
바벨론에 의해 유다왕국이 멸망한 뒤에, 사반의 손자
그달리야 가 총독이 되어 그 지역을 다스리게 되었다.
