Abraham left Ur of the Chaldeans, stayed in Haran, and then came down to Canaan. The descendants of Abraham's brother Nahor, who remained there, lived in Paddan-Aram.
Among them, Bethuel had children Laban and Rebekah. Rebekah married Isaac, and Laban's two daughters, Rachel and Leah, married Jacob.
It was also called Paddan.
Genesis 48:7As for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died in the land of Canaan while we were still on the way, a considerable distance from Ephrath. So I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem).
